MNN Code of Ethics

Purpose: At Muslim Neighbour Nexus (MNN), we value the dedication and contributions of our volunteers and members in making a positive impact on the community. We acknowledge that our volunteers/members are sincere and selfless in dedicating their time, energy, and resources, and only Allah SWT can sufficiently reward them. You, as a volunteer/member, are the representation of MNN to the community. As a volunteer, you play a crucial role in our mission, and the MNN Board of Directors expects you to uphold the highest standards of conduct and professionalism. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and responsibilities that every volunteer must adhere to. 

Volunteer/Staff: A volunteer or staff member can be any of the following:

  • A regular volunteer for any programming 
  • Volunteer dedicating more than 1 hour/week to MNN matters/programs
  • A regular or visiting Imam
  • A regular or visiting Khateeb
  • A regular or visiting Mu’adhdhin
  • A supporting or voting member of MNN

By volunteering with MNN , you agree to abide by these principles:

Commitment to the Vision: As a volunteer/staff member, you are expected to wholeheartedly support and align with the vision of MNN, which is “to become a well-organized and disciplined group of Canadian Muslims seeking Allah’s pleasure by pursuing excellence and striving for the personal and collective objectives of Islam within the Canadian mosaic as per the prophetic model”. Your actions should always reflect the best interests of the organization and the community we serve.

Respect and Inclusivity: We foster an environment of respect, understanding, and inclusivity for all individuals. We accommodate all the mainstream strands of Sunnism and respect all mainstream orthodox fiqhi opinions and differences. We respect all mainstream Sunni scholars and excuse their rare mistakes. We treat fellow volunteers, staff, program participants, and community members with dignity and empathy.

Professionalism: We maintain a professional and courteous demeanor while representing MNN. This includes appropriate language, behavior, and appearance during all volunteering activities. We honor our commitments and are punctual and disciplined in activities, meetings, and events. If we are unable to fulfill our commitment, we inform the appropriate resources in advance. 

Confidentiality: We do not disclose or share any personal or organizational information without proper authorization.

Safety and Security: We prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in our programs and activities. We report any safety or security concerns or incidents promptly to the appropriate authority. We know the locations of first-aid kits and AEDs on MNN property. 

Use of Resources: We use the organization’s resources responsibly and solely for authorized activities. We avoid any misuse or waste of resources.

Conflict Resolution: We handle conflicts or disagreements in a respectful and constructive manner. If we encounter any issues, we report them to the appropriate supervisor or coordinator for resolution. 

Continuous Improvement: We remain open to feedback and strive for personal and professional growth as a volunteer/staff member. We share our ideas and suggestions to help improve the organization’s effectiveness and the performance of other volunteers and staff members whenever appropriate. 

Zero Tolerance for Harassment or Violence: MNN has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of harassment, including but not limited to verbal, physical, or online harassment. We treat the community members and other volunteers with kindness. 

Social Media Policy: As an MNN volunteer/member, your actions on social media or chat groups may also represent MNN. We remain respectful to others in social media conversations and avoid any personal attacks and offensive language. We do not, directly or indirectly, undermine MNN matters and decisions publicly.  We share our concerns privately with the MNN Board. We verify information before sharing and use credible sources only. We do not malign Islamic scholars and do not attack mainstream Islamic organizations. We respect copyrights and intellectual property rights. We do not act as spokespersons for MNN on social media and do not post official matters without permission or authorization. 

Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in corrective action, including termination of your volunteer status and/or membership.

By volunteering with MNN, you signify your commitment to upholding these principles and being an active participant in our efforts to create a better community.
